Artificial Grass Around Pools in Dubai, a practical guide

We install a lot of poolside lawns in Dubai. Villas in Arabian Ranches, Jumeirah and Damac Hills, smaller plunge pools in JVC and JVT, even a few rooftop pools in the Marina. The brief is usually the same. People want a clean, soft surface that stays tidy, drains well after a swim and doesn’t scorch bare feet. Here’s a straight, detailed guide from our team at Mazegrass on how pool projects work and what to expect.

Why pool owners in Dubai choose artificial grass
Comfort underfoot. Quality turf feels soft even when dry. It is kinder than hot tiles, kinder than rough pavers, and better for little ones hopping in and out.
Low maintenance. No mowing around coping stones, no fertiliser near water, no clippings in the pool skimmer.
Clean pool water. Natural lawns shed soil and fertiliser, which end up in the water. Artificial grass keeps grit out.
Year-round look. UV-stabilised fibres stay green through summer. No brown patches where shade meets full sun.
Heat and comfort in Dubai conditions
Everything heats up here in the summer, even stone around the pool. Our grasses are UV-stabilised and made with fibres that reflect a portion of heat. In practice most customers find the surface fine morning and late afternoon. If it is very hot at midday, a quick hose cools it in seconds. Lighter green tones also hold a little less warmth.
If your pool faces west and bakes in the afternoon, consider a lighter turf tone and add a simple shade solution for the hottest weeks. We can show you samples at the showroom so you can feel the difference.
Drainage, the part that makes or breaks a poolside lawn
Pools mean splashes, rinsing and the occasional overflow. A good poolside install always starts with drainage.
Base build. We prepare a compacted aggregate base so water moves away from the pool edge, then a fine screed for a smooth finish.
Perforated backing. All Mazegrass products are perforated so water passes through quickly.
Falls and channels. Where space allows we set a slight fall away from the coping. If your site is flat, we add discreet channels so water never sits against the pool shell.
On balconies or rooftops. We use a drainage mat under the turf so water reaches outlets freely.
Chlorine, salt and pool chemicals
People worry about chlorine. Good question. Our grasses are made for outdoor use and Dubai’s sun is tougher on them than pool water. Normal splash-back will not harm the fibre or backing. If you shock the pool, give nearby turf a quick rinse once the cover comes off. Saltwater pools are fine as well. The bigger risk to any surface is repeated chemical spills from storage drums; keep those on a tray.
Edges, coping and the small details
A tidy edge makes the whole area look finished.
Coping to grass. We finish with a neat hidden trim so the fibres sit just under the coping lip. No trip edge, no exposed glue.
Pebble borders. If you like the look of white pebbles, we set a small geotextile strip behind them so they don’t migrate into the fibres.
Decking to grass. On timber or composite we add a breathable underlay and fix mechanically at the perimeter so the surface stays flat.
Safety around the pool
Slip behaviour. Artificial grass has natural grip when wet. It feels secure under bare feet and reduces the “skatey” feel of smooth tiles.
Cushioning. For play areas near the shallow end we can add a shock-pad layer for extra softness.
Fire and sun. All Mazegrass products meet outdoor use standards and include UV protection. As with any plastic, keep hot metal furniture and reflective glass away from a single spot that could focus heat.
Choosing the right turf for pool areas
Pool zones get mixed traffic. Soft on the toes, strong at the edges, easy to brush back to life.
Venice 30 mm. Smart for compact spaces, balconies and roof pools. Easy to rinse, quick to dry.
Sienna 33 mm. A solid all-rounder. Stays upright around sun loungers and dining sets.
Regal 38 mm. Softer feel for family gardens with a main pool.
Naples 40 mm. Lush look for villas where the lawn is a feature.
All are stocked in here in Dubai. Delivery is usually 1–2 days.
Cost and timelines
Every site is a little different, but this is a fair guide for Dubai.
Supply only from about 50 AED per m².
Full installation including base works for most pool surrounds typically falls between 90 and 130 AED per m², depending on access, edging and drainage requirements.
Timing. Most pool projects complete in 1 to 3 days. Balcony and roof installs are often finished in a day.
You’ll get a fixed quote once we have measured and checked the base so get it touch for a free personalised quote.
Looking after poolside turf
Pool areas are easy to keep tidy.
Give it a light brush every week to lift the pile and push off sand.
Rinse after busy pool days or after a dust blow.
If sunscreen drips build up on a favourite spot, a mild soapy rinse sorts it.
Common mistakes we fix
No base preparation. Turf glued straight to sand or loose screed will rut and hold water.
Seams pointing at the pool. You want joins set away from the main view line so they are invisible.
Cheap turf. Low stitch rates and flat fibres crush within a season. It looks tired very quickly in a high-traffic pool area.
Warranty, installation and reviews
Everything we sell is UV-stabilised and comes with a 10-year UV warranty. Our team handles the work cleanly, protects the pool while we install, and leaves the space ready to use. We are based in Al Quoz, we stock locally, and our Google rating is 4.9 out of 5 from Dubai customers.
FAQ's for pool projects in Dubai
Will artificial grass shed into the pool
No. The fibres are locked into the backing. Brushing lifts the pile but does not shed blades.
Is it safe for pets that swim
Yes. Rinse now and then, and consider our deodorising infill if your dog sunbathes by the shallow end.
Can I put sun loungers directly on the grass
Yes. Move them a touch each week and give the area a brush. The fibres bounce back.
What about robotic pool cleaners throwing water No issue. The surface drains faster than tiles once it is brushed dry.
