Artificial Grass Installation in Dubai: What to Expect (And How to Get It Right)

I’ve been with the Mazegrass team here in Dubai for a good few years now, and trust me — we’ve seen it all. Rooftop terraces in the Marina, school play areas in Jumeirah, little villa gardens in the Springs. The one thing they all have in common? A proper installation makes all the difference.

A lot of people think laying artificial grass is just a matter of rolling it out and brushing it into place. But if you want your lawn to last — especially with our heat — the prep work matters.

What’s Actually Involved in Artificial Grass Installation?

When we take on a project, we follow a clear process from start to finish. Here’s how we do it — and why each step matters.

1. Ground excavation and waste removal

We start by completely clearing the area. That means digging out any old turf, sand, or debris and capping off any irrigation lines to avoid leaks. We remove everything — no piles of rubble left behind.

2. Creating a strong gluing edge

We build a gluing edge around the whole perimeter using interlock bricks or cement. This forms a solid base to attach the turf. It’s what stops the edges from lifting or shifting over time — especially during summer heat.

3. Weed membrane installation

A geo-textile weed membrane goes next. It acts as a barrier to prevent weeds pushing through the grass and allows for proper drainage. Simple, but crucial for long-term performance.

4. Installing the aggregate foundation

We then lay a Grade-A crushed rock base. This creates a stable, even surface underneath the turf and helps with drainage. It’s not something you want to skimp on.

5. Compacting and levelling the surface

Next, we use a whacker plate to compact the aggregate and create a level base. A bumpy foundation means a bumpy lawn — so we take our time here.

6. Cutting the Mazegrass to fit

Once the base is set, we roll out your chosen Mazegrass and cut it precisely to the shape of your space. Corners, curves, tight areas — all cut by hand for a clean finish.

7. Applying UV-resistant adhesive

We use a specially selected adhesive that’s designed to withstand Dubai’s climate. It keeps the grass fixed firmly in place, even in peak heat.

8. Seam joining and alignment

If we’re using more than one roll, our team carefully joins the seams to keep the surface smooth and natural-looking. Done properly, you won’t even notice the joins.

9. Silica sand infill

We apply a layer of silica sand across the surface. This helps the blades stand up, adds weight, and provides extra UV protection to the backing.

10. Power brushing and final clean-up

We finish by power brushing the lawn to lift the fibres and work the sand deep into the pile. Then we use a blower to clear any loose bits or debris.

11. Final quality check

Before we leave, we carry out a full quality check — seams, edges, drainage — the lot. We won’t pack up until everything’s as it should be.

Why We Don’t Recommend DIY Artificial Grass Installation

Now and then, we get calls from people asking us to fix a DIY job that’s gone wrong. Common issues? Poor drainage. Lifting edges. Wrinkled seams. Turf that overheats or shifts around. Usually it’s because the base wasn’t prepared properly, or the wrong materials were used.

In a place like Dubai, where the heat, dust, and sand all add to the challenge, installation isn’t something to wing. Even a small mistake can cost you a lot in the long run.

That’s why we always recommend getting a professional install — especially for larger spaces or complex layouts.
